Winter Afternoon

In snow-covered backyard, garden is without bloom
Lonely is my heart and silence pervades my room.
Wind is forgetful, who is to knock on door today?
Leaves, lost in their own thoughts aren’t whispering.
Time is in prison here, hourglass broken.
The bird is caged in and emotions are fenced.
Hearth is cluttered and fire is burned out.
Dancing shadows of yonder land beaming from television
Fail to breathe life in stillness of room.
Yet the crisp cool richness of afternoon
Invites me calmly
Come; bathe in my hue for once
‘Cause I am part of your life.
