The Qwest for DSL
Well, anticipating a 1000% increase in internet traffic on my website after the launching of my blog, I decided to switch to a DSL provider that has upload speeds faster than the slurpy 256kbps that Earthlink was offering me (yes, fellow surfers, I’m looking out for you, so long as you’re looking out for my pictures). CNSP, based locally in Santa Fe, was offering a pretty interesting fixed wireless solution utilizing Motorola’s Canopy equipment. I can see the Canopy equipment being readily used in rural areas and in underdeveloped countries; my technical curiosity really would have liked to try it out. Unfortunately I live neither in a rural nor underdeveloped area, so I wasn’t forced into the option; in addition, I was a little concerned about installing an antenna on my condo rooftop and feeding coax down into my loft. Eventually, I decided on Qwest Communications: standard 1.5Mbps download and whopping 896kbps upload. After factoring in a static IP address it’ll cost me about $35/month for the first 12 months. Not too shabby, considering I was paying $65/month with Earthlink.
What I wasn’t told was that it would take 2+ weeks to set up. I just recently got my connection up and running and I have a lot of posts to catch up on. Stay tuned…
